Oh happy days!

10th November 2008

With all the doom and gloom dominating the media it difficult not to get concerned. However we at Rehab are not biting this negative craze.
Economic downturn or not, clients still need to communicate to customers and staff, and bolster their products and services. It’s up to designers to help them find the most effective way to do it.

Here are some good examples of reasons to be cheerful;

Fortune favors the brave. In the recession of the mid-1970s:
* Bill Gates and Paul Allen started Microsoft (1975)
* Frederick Smith launched FedEx (1973)
* Michael Ovitz opened Creative Artists Agency (1975)
* Time launched People magazine (1975) now the No. 1 magazine in terms of ad pages and revenue
* P&G rolled out Pringles – now a billion dollar brand”

Taking the Rehab magic to Manchester!

22nd September 2008

It’s funny really, you do your own thing, develop your own way of working, and it’s only when you get feedback from clients that you realise you’ve actually created something that is a bit special. I guess when you hear things like, “we’ve seen over a dozen agencies and no-one has ever really understood us before” or “all the agencies we’ve seen over the years have never shown so much passion and commitment” then the penny starts to drop.

Recently, James Eel who is the UK Director of Real Live Leisure, the owner of Lakes Aquarium, Blackpool Zoo and Bournemouth Oceanarium, said something very nice:  “Rehab work with the client to understand their brief but in addition to understand the local and national markets they operate within. Whilst respecting the clients knowledge they make suggestions for improvements without the unwelcome hard sell. This led to the production of two amazing brand identities for our two North West leisure attractions that will take them forward into the next 10 years.”

I suppose us Brits are known for our modesty and it’s pretty hard to see yourself as others see you, isn’t it? After a bit of navel gazing, we at Rehab reckoned that it came down to a few key strengths. First, we are passionate about partnerships and that’s not just spin -we’ve actually turned down work because we didn’t feel the partnership was right. Second, it’s our team, the combination of talent, expertise and personality makes what we do feel like some kind of marketing and design alchemy. And thirdly, in the main we love our clients and most of them are our friends.

We know we have something a bit special and it would be wrong not to spread the ‘love’ wouldn’t it? We think Manchester needs Rehab plus it’ll be fun shaking our booty, ruffling some feathers and sharing our magic with some gorgeous Manchester clients! It all makes sense We’re already working in the city with Smith & Smith PR on the Lancashire Tea account, so here we come!   Basically it’s a celebration of our success, and I don’t know about you, but I am sick and tired of all the doom and gloom, so in the spirit of positive difference Rehab is sticking two fingers up to the credit crunch and moving upwards and onwards!

Flickrvision

15th August 2008

We were visiting our friends at Smith & Smith PR in Manchester on thursday who showed us this great new web application called Flickrvision. It's one of those things that actually has no practical use at the moment but does make you feel that you're connected to the world. Every few seconds an image that is currently being uploaded live to Flickr is displayed on a Google Map image of the world, with a reference to the city and country it's being uploaded from. It's actually better than i've made it sound so please take a look. Flickrvision.com

Meditation centre

It’s the Rehab way to immerse ourselves in everything our client’s do, everything that makes them special.
Larry and I just spent a weekend of meditation and self transformation at The Meditation Centre in Dent.
We actually did it very much for ourselves because we were feeling knackered and burnt out, but also because we
are working with them to re-brand the Meditation Centre due for launch in September 2008.
Result of the weekend is we both feel fantastic like we’ve had a 2 week holiday in Shangri La!

Playtime!

8th August 2008

True to the Rehab ethos to help charities and not-for-profit organisations, we gave £10,000 worth of our time and expertise in sponsorship to create a brand identity for an exciting Folly project

The Portable Pixel Playground is an amazing new play space created by artists working with digital technology. A bit like an adventure playground, a bit like a work of art, and a bit like a computer game, the playground has been designed to allow young people (and inquisitive adults!) to use everyday technologies in fun and creative ways, providing them with new, interactive and hands-on experiences of art and technology. What's that smell?

1st August 2008

They say you can fool, some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. Sometimes you hear a stray sentence on the news that makes you realise you have been lied to. Deliberately lied to; systematically lied to; lied to for a purpose. If you listen to most politicians it’s a close line between spin and bullshit. In our world of marketing and advertising it’s really important to tell the truth. Client’s put their trust in you, their hopes and their dreams for a better future. Some agencies try build their businesses with claims that are simply not true, bending the truth by aligning themselves to big brands or pretending to be something they ain’t. Well my old mum used to tell me cheaters never prosper and what goes around comes around, so watch out for the splat the next time you see a big fat cow overhead!

Curtain is raised on new website for major NW theatre

31st July 2008

dukes web 2

We’re really excited and pleased with the finished Dukes website. It totally reflects the vibrancy and variety of the programmes whilst remaining incredibly simple and user-friendly.
It enables visitors to view all upcoming events quickly and easily via central calendar. It also incorporates a ticket booking facility, latest news, a blog and a mailing list subscription page.

Joe Sumsion, Director at The Dukes  ‘The new website is a fantastic addition for The Dukes.  It perfectly reflects, with clarity and simplicity, our aims and the range of quality projects we do:  Home Grown productions, visiting productions, films and events across a wide range of art-forms, as well as our excellent work with young people. It achieves all this in combination with superb design, and we’re delighted with the work Rehab have done on it’. You can visit the Dukes website here

Getting 2gether08

10th July 2008

Getting 2gether08

2gether08 branded as a festival of ideas, new technologies and progress was really exciting and inspirational on 2 levels.

First it really cemented my thoughts about Rehab’s own strategic direction and how right we are to forge the digital path.
What was great was the affirmation the conference gave me that Isaac, Ian and I were actually at the birth of this digital revolution.
I felt really proud that we are innovators and have been first to market working with new technologies and new consumer channels, such as Virtual Zones, Fonedream and Monstermob.

Getting 2gether08

Second, I was blown away by how many people are actively involved on making a positive change to help the world.
The digital world means things can happen from a grassroots level, from a street, to a village and so on.
It also means that Hest Bank can help Harare.

And most important of all we’ve got lots of ideas for our clients.

Street performer with a difference

Street performer with a difference 1

Johan Lorbeer is a German street performer. He became famous in the past few years because of his “Still-Life” Performances, which took place in the public area. His installations includes “Proletarian Mural” and “Tarzan”, which are famous in Germany.

Several of these performances feature Lorbeer in an apparently impossible position. With his still-life performances, this German artist seems to unhinge the laws of gravity. For hours on time, he remains, as a living work of art, in physically impossible positions. Check it out here.

Dukes Photoshoot

Isaac and Steve setting up Dukes shot

We took advantage of the glorious weather at the weekend to get the image for the cover of the Dukes Spring Summer 2009 Theatre Guide.

Carrying the generator

The idea is to place the old Dukes neon sign in scenes of nature representing the season. So it was in the hills of Littledale, carrying a very heavy generator that the action took place.

We're feeling positive

2nd June 2008

MTV-logo

One of my chums sent me this article, which echoes how I feel about all the negative vibes that are around at the moment.

"MTV was launched during the US recession of 1981 - its success came about because of the pervading gloom, not
despite it. 'If you can develop and be innovative around a product or service that's bright and cheerful and makes
people feel good, that can be a very positive thing to have in a gloomy economic environment,' says Mulcahey.
And it's not just established companies that can benefit. On the face of it, this would seem a rotten time to start a
business. But entrepreneurs tend to be adept at spotting opportunities where others see problems - and some will tell
you that this is actually the very best time to start up, because it forces you into good habits. "

Charlie Osmondco-founded research and recruitment consultancy FreshMinds in the aftermath of the dot.com crash in 2000.
'Starting a business at that time made us very disciplined about managing cashflow, and it made us very careful
about how we chose to allocate our most important resources - particularly our time and money. Both have stayed
with us ever since.'

The message is clear: don't be intimidated by the downturn, even if it does turn into the UK's first recession in more
than 15 years. See it as an opportunity, and your business can come out of it in an even stronger position than it's in
now.

George Soros was asked on Radio 4 what was the secret of his success. His answer. Courage

New website live

24th May 2008

A very warm welcome to our brand new site, it's taken longer than we thought but worth the wait. We have a new portfolio area which offers a taste of some of the exciting work we've been busying ourselves with over the past few months including lots of branding projects.

Perhaps the bit we're most excited about is this bit - the blog. We'll be regularly updating it with the usual stuff such as news and new projects but also interesting things we come across as we go about our business. You'll also find some of our thoughts and brain-dumps which we feel are worth committing to screen.

So thank you for taking the time to visit and we hope you like the site and feel free to contact us, we're a friendly bunch.

Hi Janie

Congratulations on achieving recommended status.

And this is what they say about themselves:

Only the best agencies make our list. Not the richest. Not the ones with the most friends. Or the ones who pick up the most lunch tabs. Just those who are quite simply the best at what they do. Only they make the Recommended Agency Register.
